Coronavirus test appointments scheduled for Tuesday at Union Station were canceled after Miramax was granted a permit to film there, officials confirmed late Monday night.
A coronavirus testing site at Union Station was open for business today, following a cascade of criticism from activists who lashed out at the city and Mayor Eric Garcetti upon learning the site was set to be shuttered for the day, allegedly to accommodate a film shoot.
According to Deadline, the film shoot will go on as scheduled on the Union Station South Patio while the coronavirus testing is being held at the station's testing kiosk. "The 504 Angelenos who were scheduled for a test there can visit the kiosk as originally planned or any of the other 14 City sites, where we offer 38K tests daily", his tweet reads.
After news broke that the testing would be halted for the She's All That remake shoot, in turn canceling over 500 scheduled appointments, Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti took to Twitter to do damage control.
It's unclear whether the testing kiosk will reopen on Tuesday. Our network of testing centers and mobile testing facilities reaches the entire city of Los Angeles, and we will continue to monitor new Surge areas to ensure that testing is as easy as possible to obtain.
Los Angeles was expected to conduct a total of 38,000 coronavirus tests on Tuesday across multiple locations, including at least seven other walk-up testing sites, a spokesperson for the mayor said.
Ironically, Los Angeles county imposed a three-week stay-at-home order on Monday, banning gatherings with anyone outside of residents' homes. "City sites offer free tests to anyone with or without symptoms and results are provided within 24-48 hours".
According to reporting from Deadline, Los Angeles residents who had coronavirus test appointments scheduled Tuesday received an email informing them of the shutdown.
Garcetti was at the center of backlash Monday night after it was revealed by Deadline that the "She's All That" reboot was responsible for shutting down the popular COVID-19 testing center.
"We apologize for the inconvenience and delay due to the inconvenience", Curative Customer Care announced about the site, but the La Union Station kiosk site had to cancel all appointments for December 1. 8 am-3pm Referring to the closure in his email as a "huge inconvenience", the curator promised that they could use their December 1 appointment time "for any date and time in the future that would Works for you".
The decision to close the Union Station site was made by the curator, a well-placed source tells us.

But, until this afternoon, FilmLA and the mayor's office was unaware that the filming permit would lead to the closure of the testing site.
There was no comment on Miramax's condition when contacted by Deadline.
"I sincerely can't believe that this is not an Onion article, and you took 7 hours from the initial posting to say AT MIDNIGHT that tests (which shouldn't have been closed to begin with) will be reopened, " artist Andrew Minghee Kim wrote. Madison Pettis, Peyton Mayer, Isabella Crowetti, Annie Jacob and Myra Molloy, Rae and Buchanan will also feature gender-based versions of the characters Freddie Princes Jr. and Rachel Leah Cook in a cast.
