The San Jose Sharks forward has filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy, listing assets of about $10 million, mostly in real estate, and liabilities of nearly $27 million. Most recently he signed a seven-year, $49 million contract with the Sharks in 2018.

In total, Kane noted 47 creditors in the petition, including Centennial Bank, which brought a suit against the winger and the Sharks for $8.3 million last week, according to San Jose Hockey Now. Per capfriendly.com, he's earned $52.9 million in his career.

Per The Athletic, the 29-year-old's Chapter 7 filing list liabilities of $26.8 million. However, the Sharks' opt out date was December 24, and Kane has been participating in training camp.

The complaint notes that Kane might opt out of the season, despite missing the league's December deadline, because of health concerns, eliminating his income.

Kane and The Cosmopolitan settled a lawsuit in April of previous year after the Las Vegas casino alleged he failed to pay back $500,000 in gambling markers, according to a report by Mick Akers in the Las Vegas Review Journal. Kane filed for bankruptcy on January 9. "Should he terminate his contract or opt out at a point in the season, Debtor will not receive his salary".

Messages made from USA TODAY Sports to the Sharks regarding Kane's status for the upcoming season were not immediately returned.

Kane, who has 56 goals over the past two seasons with San Jose, was a participant at San Jose's Tuesday practice. "I won't make a comment on any player's personal situation, but I am assured that he will be here for the whole season, and he's on board".
