Deadline reports that Chris Evans is expected to reprise his role as Captain America in an upcoming MCU project, with "the door open for a second film".
Deadline's sources say that this return would not be for a new Captain America film and would be more akin to Robert Downey Jr.'s role as Tony Stark following Iron Man 3.
More than a year after his emotional curtain call in Avengers: Endgame, Chris Evans is apparently considering a return to the MCU. But, in a soul-crushing move, Evans tweeted out that it was "news to him".
Long before "Avengers: Endgame" hit theaters in 2019, Evans expressed his desire to depart the Marvel Cinematic Universe, saying that he wanted more time to spend with his family.
While the actual arc that Remender penned is honestly not the best (especially the stupid part I didn't mention where Cap basically became a Nazi), there is a lot of material for Marvel to mine for Evans' return to the role.
Evans, who is now working on other movies, said: "There are other things that I'm working on right now".
This would appear to pour cold water on the theoretically exciting news, but it would not be the first time Marvel stars have engaged in trickery to hide superhero surprises.
How Evans will return is unclear but Marvel have a history of inserting characters into movies even if their own character's franchises have come to an end, whilst the addition of Disney+ adds more opportunity for Captain America to return. So I'm not giving up on this quite yet, mainly because I like the idea of mentor Steve Rogers showing up while Sam Wilson is Captain America. That being said, the tweet responses to Chris Evans' "debunking" is truly a treasure trove.
