Of course, McGregor first needs to get past Dustin Poirier who he faces in a lightweight bout in the UFC 257 headliner on January 23. White has indicated he wants Nurmagomedov vs. Conor McGregor to be the milestone 30th attempt in a rematch if McGregor beats Dustin Poirier at UFC 257 next week.
"It will be on the discussions with the UFC where we go with this, what's next", McGregor said. It was a shock announcement considering Nurmagomedov is very clearly peaking and just one fight away from stretching his ideal record to 30-0.
"There's so many fights out there". Even the carry on around the Tony situation, I don't care about nothing. You're scheduled to fight a man.
"I think every fight - win or lose - you have an opportunity to get better and reassess what's going on".
It's been the hallmark of his approach.
McGregor said that Khabib was "scurrying away" from a potential rematch by announcing his retirement. It is what it is.
Former UFC welterweight title contender Hardy believes that Oliveira will emerge as the new lightweight kingpin by the end of 2021 ahead of McGregor. But, while talking about his rival's apparent retirement recently, McGregor took a couple of verbal pokes at the undefeated lightweight.
However, "The Notorious" feels that the UFC should have put a title on the line in his upcoming fight.
'I think that if his mother says no, it's no, ' he added. "I don't think Dana is going to be bouncing in to throw me a belt straight away with the way the year went, but I understand". What are the belts? I want to be bleeding with a minute off the first-round clock.
"The Nik Lentz fight. he caught his kick, punched him right down the pipe, caught his foot so he couldn't get away from him while he finished him on the floor".
Since Conor McGregor became an MMA phenomenon, many athletes want a piece of Irish legend. Khabib, who still technically holds the UFC lightweight championship, elected to retire from the sport following his victory over Justin Gaethje at UFC 254, a fight which earned him the Performance of the Night award.
