Americans are split on whether President Donald Trump should be allowed to tweet and post on other social media platforms once his term expires, according to a new poll. But MS Pelosi would not say when she would send the article to the Senate, the step that triggers a trial.
Voters have deeply disapproved of the way the president has conducted himself in wake of the November election he lost to US President-elect Joe Biden.
"Pelosi called the recovery package a matter of complete urgency". "Now we have to move on and do it in the right way, and that will require resources, which will require legislation".
Pelosi told reporters on Friday that the nine House impeachment managers, who act as the prosecutors for the House, are working on taking the case to trial.
Some advisers have been urging the President to host Mr Biden for a White House meeting ahead of Inauguration Day, but there was no sign Mr Trump was willing to do that, an administration official said.
Mr Trump had falsely said for weeks that the election was stolen from him.
He will be the first sitting president since Andrew Johnson in 1869, who was the first USA president to be impeached by the House, to skip his successor's inauguration. Pelosi said Biden's proposed Dollars 1.9 trillion coronavirus plan to speed up vaccines and economic aid is a "matter of complete urgency", suggesting it could take precedence over Trump's historic second impeachment trial. He was first impeached by the House in 2019 over his dealings with Ukraine, but the Senate voted in 2020 to acquit.
No president has ever been convicted in the Senate, and it would take a two-thirds vote against Trump, an extremely high hurdle.
With security on alert over the threat of more potential violence heading into the inauguration, the Senate is also moving quickly to prepare for confirming Biden's nominee for National Intelligence Director, Avril Haines.
Presidential inaugurations are generally attended by hundreds of thousands of people who pack onto the National Mall, but officials have closed the enormous lawn due to security concerns.
