Jaguars’ expected GM for Urban Meyer previously worked with Jim Harbaugh

The Jacksonville Jaguars have the first overall pick and a brand new head coach in Urban Meyer. Owner Shad Khan said last week Meyer will determine the vision and blueprint for the Jaguars roster.

"Trent thoroughly knows the National Football League and the dynamics of today's game, has an exceptional eye for talent and I know will have excellent chemistry with head coach Urban Meyer as they begin their mission to bring a consistent victor to our fans in Jacksonville", Khan said in a statement. Baalke became the interim GM to close out the season.

Fontenot was named Atlanta's GM on Monday.

Baalke joined Jaguars in the role this past February.

Most believe Urban will take Clemson star, Trevor Lawrence, over Fields. but when we asked Justin if he believed he was the better prospect, he sure seemed to think so.

Navarro: It's an interesting pairing considering Baalke had his best success in San Francisco with a good college coach in Jim Harbaugh and then had the relationship fall apart over a power struggle.

While Baalke was the general manager for San Francisco, they were able to go to three consecutive NFC titles from 2011-13. After Harbaugh left for MI following an 8-8 season in 2014, the 49ers went 5-11 and 2-14 with Jim Tomsula and Chip Kelly before Baalke was sacked. That earned Baalke NFL Executive of the Year honors by Pro Football Weekly and the Pro Football Writers of America. The Jaguars have 11 picks in the 2021 draft, including four in the top 45, and are almost $100 million under the projected salary cap.
