The insanely popular 2008 film Cloverfield is getting a sequel.
Among the revelation films of 2008, capable of grossing 172 million against a budget of 25 million thanks to a strong viral marketing campaign, Cloverfield followed a group of boys from NY who tried to cross the city while this was under the attack of a very big monster.
Made for just $25 million, the film features a cast including Lizzy Caplan, Jessica Lucas, T.J. Miller, Michael Stahl-David, Mike Vogel, and Odette Yustman. 10 Cloverfield Lane was its own separate film about a young woman, played by Mary Elizabeth Winstead, who was trapped in the doomsday bunker of a mysterious man, played by John Goodman, after he claimed an attack of some sort happened worldwide.
While we have had two spin offs from the much loved original, the rather brilliant 10 Cloverfield Lane and the not so brilliant, The Cloverfield Paradox, this new film will be a direct continuation from the first film - and it WILL NOT BE FOUND FOOTAGE!
They were originally developed as standalone films devoid of anything that attached them to the Cloverfield universe, but were eventually changed to fit into the universe before each movie's release.
Are you excited for the upcoming Cloverfield sequel, or do you prefer more traditional kaiju films? THR says that the new movie won't be found footage, however. Abrams will again produce through Bad Robot, but Reeves will not be involved in the new film.
Barton's Amazon Studios sci-fi thriller "Invasion" is in post-production, with Riz Ahmed and Octavia Spencer starring.
