Those cities experienced the first round of the storm Thursday into Friday morning, with Portland getting 1 inch of snow. Accumulations of snow, if any, are expected to be on the lighter side.
Icing, along with sleet and freezing rain, may be a concern late Saturday in Southeastern Massachusetts. "At least 1/4" to 1/2" of ice is expected in the ice storm warning area, but some areas could receive up to 3/4".
Temperatures will hold in the 28-32 range for most areas much of the day.
"This winter storm system continues to evolve but confidence is increasing just a bit that some travel impacts due to this wintry mix will develop", the weather service in Huntsville said. This comes on the heels of the 1 inch snowfall Portland received on Thursday.
"We're still on track for a major snowstorm across the region tonight into Saturday", says the National Weather Service office in Seattle. With the wet snow already on trees, the ice forming may cause some branches or trees to fall, and widespread power outages are possible.
More freezing rain will be possible later on Monday as well as a cold front moves through, according to forecasters. As much as 2 new inches are possible in the central Willamette Valley. A good chunk of Sunday will be dry with highs in the upper 30s and lower 40s.
However, there's a chance for more winter mischief on Wednesday, according to forecasters, but it's too early to say if freezing rain or snow will be an issue. The main factor will be the influence of cold air coming from the gorge.
WHEN: From late Saturday night through Monday afternoon.
These totals are dwarfed by the forecast totals across the higher elevations of the Cascades in Washington and northern Oregon.
