Australia receives over 142,000 doses of Pfizer coronavirus vaccine

"The guidance then is that there has to be (Therapeutic Goods Administration) assessment, damage assessment, quality control and we are on track for commencement in the last week of February", Mr Hunt said.

Mr Hunt said vaccinations are on track to begin before the end of the month.

Priority will be given to hotel quarantine workers that are most likely to come into contact with positive worldwide arrivals.

There were concerns earlier this year over whether the European Union would block vaccines from being shipped to Australia, with many member countries yet to receive their agreed upon stock.

The states would receive 50,000 doses to begin the process of vaccinating hotel quarantine staff, frontline health workers, and aged care workers and residents.

The Pfizer vaccine will be delivered through hospital "hubs" across Australia, and in residential aged care and disability care facilities.

The Federal Opposition has lashed the Government for its lag in getting the vaccines to rollout in Australia, after 90 countries have already given millions of jabs to their citizens.

Prime Minister Scott Morrison visits the CSL vaccine manufacturing facility.

So far, Pfizer is the only vaccine approved for use in Australia.

"Rollout of the vaccine will start in late February".

"And if confidence increases there's an increase in uptake".

He wants to know how the flagged online booking system will work and when exactly the jabs will be administered.

Earlier, Mr Hunt confirmed that about 80,000 doses of the first Pfizer vaccines would be exported from Belgium, The Australian reports. "They will also do testing as part of that".
