Harry and Meghan are preparing to welcome a brother or sister for their son Archie Mountbatten-Windsor, who turned one last May. "The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are overjoyed to be expecting their second child", a spokesperson for the couple said in a statement on Sunday. Additional details about the forthcoming child haven't been shared, according to E Online.
The black and white image that has just been released was taken remotely by their friend, photographer Misan Harriman.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex's second child will be eighth in line to the throne.
Since ending their royal duties, Harry and Meghan have continued charity work and signed TV and other media deals, launching their debut podcast in December.
The Duchess wrote an essay about her experience losing her child. Last November, Meghan revealed in an opinion piece for the New York Times that she had a miscarriage several months earlier.
She wrote: "I dropped to the floor with him in my arms, humming a lullaby to keep us both calm, the cheerful tune a stark contrast to my sense that something was not right". She said she was sharing her story in the hope of helping others.
Queen Elizabeth and her husband Prince Philip, Harry's father Prince Charles and the whole family were "delighted" and wished the couple well, a Buckingham Palace spokesman said.
