Ravi's arrest came days after Swedish environmental activist Greta Thunberg offered her support to the farmers by sharing a protest "toolkit", much to the ire of Delhi Police who have registered a case against Thunberg for "criminal conspiracy".
"Addressing a press conference, Joint Commissioner of Police (Cyber) Prem Nath said 22-year-old Disha also deleted a WhatsApp group she created to spread the "toolkit", which was a dynamic document with hyperlinks to Google docs, a lot of which are 'pro-Khalistani".
The move was quickly met with protests and criticism.
In the document, various urgent actions, including creating a Twitter storm and protesting outside Indian embassies, were reportedly listed which were needed to be taken to support the farmers' protest. This is many times more than the two lines editing that she claims, they said.
The court has granted five days of police custody for Disha, adding that the rest of the investigation is underway, he said.
Police have been cracking down on the farmers' movement, which of late has drawn worldwide support, including from U.S. pop star Rihanna and Meena Harris, an activist and niece of U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris.
Ms Ravi could not be reached in custody and her family was not immediately available for comment.
The Cyber Cell had lodged an FIR against unnamed "pro-Khalistan" creators of the "toolkit" for waging a "social, cultural and economic war against the Government of India".
Numerous protesting farmers come from Punjab.
Disha Ravi, 22, was arrested in Bengaluru on Saturday.
In July previous year, the Delhi police had invoked a counter-terrorism law to block three websites of student climate activists after the groups campaigned against the government's attempt to dilute in forest protections during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Indian MP P. Chidambaram, also responded on Twitter, declaring that "the Indian state must be standing on very shaky foundations if Disha Ravi, a. student of Mount Carmel college and a climate activist, has become a threat to the nation".
Congress leader Jairam Ramesh said, "Completely atrocious!"
Their parade had dissolved into unprecedented scenes of anarchy as protesters fought with police, overturned vehicles and delivered a national insult hoisting a religious flag from the ramparts of the Red Fort, a privilege reserved for India's tricolour. "We have found that she made several changes in the toolkit related to farmers protest and further spread it in certain groups on social media", the officer said.
The police said they had obtained non-bailable arrest warrants against Nikita Jacob, a Bombay High Court lawyer, and Shantanu, a Maharashtra-based engineer, but found they were not at their homes.
Thunberg had shared the "toolkit" to lend her support to the farmers' agitation against the three farm reform laws.
"The deleted tweet of Greta Thunberg has revealed the real designs of a conspiracy at an global level against India".
"Sir Chhotu Ram is also credited for establishing the mandi system in India, and it is this system that the present farmers' movement seeks to protect and improve", the union body said in a statement. Around the same time, about hundred people gathered at protest in Bangalore, demanding Ms Ravi's release. India is one of the South Asian countries that are at risk of adverse climate change destruction and she has been fighting for climate justice since Day 1.
