CNN anchor Chris Cuomo addressed the elephant in the room Monday evening at the start of 9 p.m.'s Cuomo Prime Time, saying he "obviously" can not report on the sexual assault allegations against his brother, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo.
According to The Times, Ms. Ruch's account "was corroborated by the friend, contemporaneous text messages and photographs from the event".
As of midday Tuesday, at least one Democratic Congress member from Long Island - U.S. Rep. Kathleen Rice - four state senators, several left-leaning Assembly members and the leaders of the progressive Working Families Party said they have already heard enough and that Cuomo should resign.
Ross Garber, a lawyer who has represented former governors Mark Sanford of SC and John Rowland of CT, said Cuomo is "essentially handing his reputation to an outsider and saying, 'Have at it".
Two former aides accused Andrew of sexual harassment. She will be investigating the alleged cases.
Cuomo has denied the sexual harassment allegations from Boylan and Bennett.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the beleaguered governor of the country's fourth most populous state apologised saying things he might have said may have been misinterpreted as unwanted flirtation - as the State's Attorney General proceeds with an investigation into the allegations. She said Cuomo told her he was lonely and looking for a girlfriend.
Cuomo has been facing heat over alleged underreporting of COVID-19 fatalities in NY nursing homes. Cuomo, who was in the midst of a scandal related to his state's nursing home COVID deaths when a second scandal popped up, has so far been accused of inappropriate behavior by three women.
Assemblywoman Jessica González-Rojas said the accusations and Mr. Cuomo's handling of Covid-19 in the state's nursing homes were deeply concerning. He denied Boylan's allegations in his statement and said that in Bennett's case, he had meant to act like a mentor.
Another former aide, Lindsey Boylan, said Cuomo commented on her appearance inappropriately, kissed her without her consent at the end of a meeting, and once suggested they play strip poker while aboard his state-owned jet.
The allegations against Cuomo emerged nearly exactly a year after the high-profile sexual assault trial in NY of movie mogul Harvey Weinstein ended in a conviction, and more than three years after the #MeToo movement took hold. In a statement Sunday, he acknowledged that he had teased people about their personal lives in an attempt to be "playful" and amusing. "To the extent anyone felt that way, I am truly sorry".
"I think everyone understands where we were back in March and where we are now", Stewart-Cousins said in a statement.
"He would not be able to govern, it's as simple as that", the Democrat said.
Bennett rejected Cuomo's attempted apology, in which he said he'd been trying to be "playful" and that his jokes had been misinterpreted as flirting.
