As of Wednesday, J&J had provided about 6.8 million doses, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's online vaccine tracker.
A dosage mix-up at a Baltimore production facility, which ruined about 15 million doses of Johnson & Johnson's COVID vaccine, has prompted the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to delay shipments of the vaccine.
The J&J vaccine has been viewed as crucial for vaccination campaigns around the world, because only one shot is required and it can be shipped and stored at standard refrigeration temperatures, unlike some other vials that must be kept frozen.
Emergent spotted the issue and notified the FDA, J&J said.
