Ontario has confirmed its first case of a rare blood clot linked to the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine.
"The benefits of Vaxzevria outweigh its risks in adults of all age groups; however, very rare cases of blood clots with low blood platelets have occurred following vaccination", it said, using the brand name for AstraZeneca's vaccine.
"While these serious reactions remain extremely rare, we have a robust process in place to monitor for any adverse events and have taken steps to ensure that these events are identified and treated as quickly as possible", continued the statement.

However, with COVID-19 cases rising province-wide and mounting criticism with the pace of vaccination, Ontario and other provinces chose to offer it to residents 40-years and up this week.
Quebec set a record for the second-straight day for COVID-19 vaccinations on Thursday, but deaths due to the virus continue to climb.
Also on Friday, the province announced that pregnant people of any age in Ontario are now eligible to receive a COVID-19 vaccine.
