The number of fatalities from Wednesday's mass shooting at a San Jose light rail maintenance yard has risen to nine after a victim who was hospitalized died overnight, the Santa Clara County Coroner's office said. The attacker took his own life, according to authorities.

In 2009, an ex-girlfriend said in court documents, "Several times during the relationship [Cassidy] became intoxicated, enraged and forced himself on me sexually", according to the San Francisco Chronicle. A neighbor, who did not want to be named, said the video was captured around 5:40 a.m. and showed Cassidy leaving the house in a truck. The victims were found in two buildings on the site.
That person was identified as Alex Ward Fritch, 49, who died at Santa Clara Valley Medical Center, FOX 2 of the Bay Area reported. All of them appeared to be male, ranging in age between 29 and 63.
Cassidy had worked for the transit authority since at least 2012, when he was listed as an "electro-mechanic, ' and was promoted to 'substation maintainer" in 2015, according to records posted by the nonprofit website Transportation California. She also said she fought off multiple other assaults.
'A terrible tragedy has happened today and our thoughts and love go out to the VTA family, ' Glenn Hendricks, chairman of the VTA board, told reporters.
Mr Singh was a light rail operator at the VTA for nine years now.
San Jose, a city of about 1 million residents, lies at the heart of Silicon Valley, a global technology hub and home to some of America's biggest high-tech companies.
"There's a sameness to this, and that numbness, I think, is something we're all feeling", California Gov. Gavin Newsom said in San Jose, after mentioning other recent shootings in the state.
Inside, police said they found a stockpile of ammunition but have not yet publicly linked the arson call to the shooting.
It took firefighters about an hour to extinguish the two-alarm fire, which caused heavy damage and left the structure uninhabitable, the fire department said. Arson investigators along with agents of the FBI and US Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives were also present.
A White House spokeswoman told reporters that the shooting was further evidence that the United States was in the grip of an "epidemic of gun violence".
