Democrats will formally nominate Clinton at their convention next week in Philadelphia. "If they fulfill their obligations to us, the answer is yes", he said. His lies are only convincing to those who want to be fooled.
Some Democrats are privately worrying that Hillary Clinton has been spending too much money and seeing too few results. Often this hostility seemed over-the-top. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., said Trump "is essentially telling Russians/other bad actors" that the United States "is not fully committed to supporting North Atlantic Treaty Organisation alliance". Carson apparently wasn't kidding.
As Trump and his minions held GOP stalwarts like Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus and House Speaker Paul Ryan hostage - their fear visible in televised speeches possibly delivered under duress - witnesses reported baffling scenes of disorganization and ineptitude. When the Cleveland PD removed a heckler who disrupted the speech, he made a point of praising them. But the Trump and Cruz feud is personal. "I'd have thought they'd be angrier about his refusal to endorse Trump".
During his lengthy address - one hour and 15 minutes - Trump said he would bring back law and order.
"The world is looking at us and seeing what we're going to do this election cycle". Illegal border crossings will go down. "But my greatest compassion will be for our own struggling citizens". "But Hillary Clinton's legacy does not have to be America's legacy". Security staff had to escort her from the building for her safety. "The nominee completely controls the convention agenda", Ralph Reed of the Faith & Freedom Coalition told me.
But the convention briefly erupted in chaos on Monday when opponents of Trump stormed out of the room and others chanted in a failed attempt to force a vote opposing his candidacy.
It was very hard to watch that convention and conclude that in the likely event of a Clinton victory in November, the people in that arena and the millions of Americans they represent, will accept defeat easily.
The Trump campaign's response to this breach of manners was, naturally, to lash out at Kasich by saying that he was "embarrassing" his state.
Trump Lie: President Obama has doubled our national debt to more than $19 trillion, and growing. Vice presidential nominee Mike Pence-remember him?-got high marks for his acceptance speech.
Trump is to be introduced by his eldest daughter, Ivanka, one of his most polished and effective advocates.
"Today the time has come for us to put the disappointments of the last four years behind us", Romney told the convention in August 2012. "Any politician who does not grasp this danger is not fit to lead our country".
Election opponent Hillary Clinton and other Democrats are to blame for numerous nation's ills, Trump said, and "the problems we face now - poverty and violence at home, war and destruction overseas - will last only as long as we continue relying on the same politicians who created them in the first place".
Trump himself expanded on this theme. Cries of "Lock her up" could be heard as he went on to say Clinton hadn't faced justice for "terrible, bad crimes".
Clinton, who has way more cash on hand than Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump, has been outspending the NY real estate mogul at a rate of 15-1 but has seen her lead shrink to single digits in certain key states.
"The most effective politicians were never career politicians", Falwell added. He clearly still nursed grievances against Donald Trump's attacks on him, his wife, and his father.
She claimed there were more female than male executives, and women are paid the same as men in Mr Trump's company. "The political things are gonna take care of themselves". Certainly that was the case this year.
Trump's initial assault on the party came last June when he announced a bid for the presidency by describing Mexican immigrants as rapists and drug dealers, sucker-punching the GOP's hopes of winning over Latino voters. Although Kolbe didn't even mention his sexuality, it was known, and several members of the Texas delegation bowed their heads in prayer, as if trying to save the soul of a sinner.
There was also a speech from PayPal cofounder Peter Thiel, who became the first delegate to reference his sexuality in an address at a Republican convention. Americans have always been proud of our ability to accept political defeat and move to fight another day.
Pro-Trump delegates were furious with him.
"I know Hillary and I think she'd make a great president", Trump wrote in March 2008.
"Only weeks ago, in Orlando, Florida, 49 wonderful Americans were savagely murdered by an Islamic terrorist". This time, the terrorist targeted our LGBT [Q] community. No good. And we're going to stop it. He drew a standing ovation when he first emerged and was cheered loudly for most of his speech.
But that's just me.
