Glenn Gronkowski, the younger brother of the stud Patriots tight end, was back on the field, presumably as a member of the practice squad.
Although not now with the team, Dr. Thomas Gill does know Rob Gronkowski well, as he served as Patriots team doctor until after the 2013 season. Gronkowski may give the Rams' defense one less thing to worry about, but Brady still has plenty of other weapons capable of having monster days as the Patriots look to continue pushing for that No. 1 seed in the AFC playoff picture.
Most of the worry surrounding the New England Patriots has been on the defensive end, but that shifted to the offense this week with the devastating Rob Gronkowski news.
One of the dominant tight ends in National Football League history, Gronkowski's biggest struggle is often to stay on the field.
The injury Gronkowski suffered after the Thomas hit, though, forced him to miss one game.
"There's a whole saying that we have when we're evaluating players at the Combine - once a disk, always a disk", Gill said. "But I don't think that any of us are going to give up on what we're trying to accomplish". He called it "probably one of the hardest I've got hit in my career".
After spending the first half of the season on the injury report with a hamstring problem, Gronkowski was hurt again on November 13.
But this season, he missed the first two games of the year due to a hamstring issue, another week because of a bruised lung and now he is dealing with this back injury. They will have to wait for the results of Gronkowski's surgery on Friday before making the final judgment on whether he will continue or will not play this season.
