Overwatch's Winter Wonderland holiday event is now live, introducing over 100 new cosmetics with over a dozen skins, a Mei-themed snowball brawl and more. We've seen them implement all kinds of special events and quests for World of Warcraft, so it really isn't that surprising to see them apply those concepts to their latest game: Overwatch, in which they have announced the Winter Wonderland event.
Lastly, two maps have received the frosty treatment: Hanamura and King's Row will look a little different in an effort to help spread the holiday cheer.
Besides bugs fixing, this event brings Christmas skins, emotes, and highlight intros for every character from the roster, featuring a new brawl called Mei's Snowball Offensive, described below.
There's also Torbjorn dressed as Santa (complete with the awesome beard!), as well as Lucio in elf gear as well.
On Mei's Snowball Offensive, all the players use a unique version of Mei as their characters, one with "a few new tricks up her fur-lined sleeve".
"In this brawl, Mei's Endothermic Blaster no longer unleashes a stream of frost or shoots icicles". Taking down an enemy with this amped up attack only takes one hit. They can be unlocked through Winter Loot Boxes, which are earned in the same manner as regular Loot Boxes: either by leveling up in-game, or purchasing them with real money. The seasonal theme lasts from December 13-January 2, and the whole she-bang has gotten introduced with this fun holiday-themed trailer.
Anything can happen at this point, we could get a insane horde mode featuring omnic elves that need to be put out of their misery, or skins like Too-Much Egg Nog Reinhardt to ring in the new year.
