An arriving airline passenger pulled a gun from his luggage and opened fire in the baggage claim area at the Fort Lauderdale airport Friday, killing five people and wounding eight before throwing his weapon down and lying spread-eagle on the ground, authorities and witnesses said.
"We can't say there's no viable threat, we have to clear the airport", he said.
No law enforcement official fired any shots during the course of the incident, Broward County Sheriff Scott Israel said.

Authorities were not able to confirm a second shooting at the airport.
The shooting occurred in Terminal 2 outside of the baggage area. "He just kind of continued coming in, just randomly shooting at people, no rhyme or reason to it".
