Xiaomi, at an event in China officially announced its budget smartphones- the Redmi 5 and the Redmi 5 Plus. Their respective storage variants also vary from 16GB to 32GB. According to the listing, Redmi 5 has been priced at $199 (approx Rs 12,800) for the Black and Gold color and $209 (approx Rs 13,500) for the pink and blue color. As is the trend these days, the Redmi 5 and 5 Plus get larger 18:9 displays up front, with slim bezels. It comes with a smaller 5.7-inch HD+ screen with a resolution of 1440 x 720 pixels, and a pixel density of 282 ppi and 18: 9 screen ratio.
The Xiaomi Redmi 5 will be powered by the 1.8GHz processor that might well be the Snapdragon 450 SoC. It's worth mentioning that an expandable MicroSD card slot is also present and can be expanded up to 128GB. The Redmi 5 and the Redmi 5 Plus have a 12-megapixel rear-facing camera and a 5-megapixel front-facing camera.

Xiaomi Redmi 5 Plus comes with a price tag of 999 yuan ($151 / Rs. 9,745 approx.) for 3GB RAM variant and 1299 yuan ($195 / Rs. 12,675 approx.) for the 4GB RAM variant. The smartphone runs on Android 7.1 Nougat based on MIUI 9. All the basic connectivity options such as 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth v4.2, GPS/ A-GPS, 3.5mm headphone jack, and microUSB are included. It also has a fingerprint scanner on its back just like Xiaomi Redmi 5. Xiaomi's love with the Snapdragon 625 SoC continues with the Redmi 5 Plus as it uses the same SoC. Both of the smartphones will feature Aluminium body with a fingerprint sensor at the back.
