Stiller met Meara at a NY casting call in 1953 and they married the following year.
But his life and career took off after he met Meara in spring 1953. Variety said: "Other supporting standout is Stiller's father Jerry as Zoolander's aggressively blunt, wannabe youthful agent". They married a few months later. As comedy duo Stiller and Meara, they were regulars on "The Ed Sullivan Show".
The pair also wrote and performed radio commercials, most memorably a series of bits for a little-known wine called Blue Nun. Ben and Amy. She's also an actress who has also appeared in small roles alongside her famous father.
Stiller and Meara starred in Joan Micklin Silver's 1999 feature "A Fish in the Bathtub", about a couple who have been bickering for decades, finally prompting the wife to move in with their son, played by Mark Ruffalo.
He continued working in film and on stage, appearing in Broadway productions such as Terrence McNally's 1975 comedy "The Ritz" in 1975 and David Rabe's 1984 dark drama "Hurlyburly". One of them was After-Play, a 1995 off-Broadway show written by Meara.
Jerry Stiller was nominated for Emmy award in 1997 for his role in "Seinfeld".
The show, one of the most highly regarded in American TV history, was in its fourth season at the time but Stiller said he had never watched a minute of it and had to ask, "Who's Seinfeld?".
