She debuted her fifth studio album 1989 with the pop anthem "Shake It Off". In contrast to Swift's two most recent releases - 2019's Lover and 2017's Reputation - the production wasn't handled exclusively by pop producers du jour such as Jack Antonoff and Joel Little. At The Disco's Brendon Urie. Ten different albums are for sale on their official website.
Along with the announcement, she released a bunch of photos and a tracklist. Elsewhere, the production swells on "august" and "seven" are some of the most understatedly handsome moments of her discography.
"In isolation my imagination has run wild and this album is the result", she explained in the album notes shared via Instagram. You can't believe a word she says. "The Last Great American Dynasty" tells the story of Rebekah, a "middle-class divorcée" who marries a heir to the Standard Oil fortune and spends her widowhood - and inheritance - on boys, ballet and annoying the neighbours of her Rhode Island mansion. Picking up a pen was my way of escaping into fantasy, history, and memory. "Vintage tee, brand new phone / High heels on cobblestones / When you are young, they assume you know nothing / Sequined smile, black lipstick / Sensual politics / When you are young, they assume you know nothing", the 30-year-old croons in the first verse.
She also reveals that the album's content is heavily inspired by her real-life experiences. "Her songs suck, stop attacking a talented group just because one of their songs became a meme and that somehow invalidates their opinions". "It was my own secret world I'd go to and I've never made music like that before".
She has also released a music video for her new single "cardigan". Kircher also pointed out that Swift has set a precedent for this in the past, having written songs under the pseudonym Nils Sjoberg for the likes of Calvin Harris and Rihanna.
