During a 2018 interview with W, Raisa recalled the frightening moment when she woke up to the news that Gomez's new kidney was turning around in her body shortly after the transplant had been completed.
Yasss! So unfortunate that she fretted that scar diminished her appeal ...
"Selena Gomez feels" happy" of her kidney transplant scar. "I didn't want it to be in photos, so I wore things that would cover it up", she captioned the shot.
Gomez's suit, aptly named the Selena One-Piece ($120), is from her best friend and former manager Theresa Mingus' newly renamed swimwear line, La'Mariette. "T - Congratulations on what you're doing for women, launching @lamariette whose message is just that.all bodies are lovely".
Though lupus can affect many body systems, it most often affects the kidneys and can lead to kidney failure.
The 28-year-old underwent chemotherapy to treat the condition and has periodically taken breaks during her acting and singing career to visit rehabilitation centers to focus on her health. "I've had a kidney transplant, and I like bathing suits that kind of cover where that's been and make me feel comfortable", she said in a promotional video, according to Refinery29.
After the singer was informed that she needed a kidney transplant, she learned that the waitlist for a donor was 7 to 10 years long. So she's up and at it immediately and I had a hard time'. She reflected on Rare and the reason why she released Lose You to Love Me and Look at Her Now back-to-back. She also mentioned about the fact that even her friend Francia Raisa has the same ink.
Speaking about being sexualised earlier in her career, Selena explained: "I just did things that weren't really me. here was pressure to seem more adult on my album, "Revival". I'm incredibly blessed. I adore you so much sis".
It seems she also feels similarly about her song lyrics. "And I think people get scared of that". And in reality, that's just my truth. And that's why I am grateful for the chapters of my life.
But now, Gomez has confidence in her body.
In a video for Self in 2018, Raisa revealed that she was warned by her social worker that recovery would be hard. "I've stopped trying to be ideal".
"The truth is that Selena was exhausted of feeling like she owed something to her because she gave her a kidney..."
Others congratulated her on her courage to embrace her whole self and everything she's been through, "Congratulations, it takes a lot of courage to be courageous".
