One of his ankles was shattered, according to a source familiar with his treatment.
Woods was taken to the hospital by ambulance.
A statement was published on Woods' Twitter account that said: "He is now awake, responsive and recovering in his hospital room". "I kept Mr. Woods calm until L.A. County and Fire arrived on the scene".

Woods was alone in the SUV when it crashed into a raised median, crossed two oncoming lanes and rolled several times, authorities said at a news conference.
The most notorious was the early morning after Thanksgiving in 2009, when his SUV ran over a fire hydrant and hit a tree.
In May 2017, with five prescription drugs in his system, Woods was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence when he was found asleep at the wheel of his auto and later pleaded guilty to reckless driving.
That hit home again in May 2017 when he was arrested for Driving Under the Influence in Florida after trying to treat his back pain and insomnia on his own with the help of doctors.
The damage to the vehicle Woods was driving was so severe that crews had to use the "jaws of life" to extricate him from the vehicle, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.
Mr Woods has suffered serious leg injuries but they are not believed to be life-threatening. He had a fifth surgery on his back, a microdiscectomy, two days before Christmas.
"I'm sick to my stomach", said Justin Thomas, No. 3 in the world and among the younger players whom Woods has embraced.
"I kind of had to sit down and ask the same question I had asked a second time because I wasn't sure I completely heard what I was being told", he said. I have no doubt about it.
A tweet yesterday showed him in a cart at Rolling Hills Country Club with comedian David Spade.
The Los Angeles Times reported that Woods was traveling northbound on Hawthorne Boulevard "at a high rate of speed and lost control of the vehicle before crossing the center divider".
"It's going to be interesting to see what happens", she added, urging people to not judge him preemptively for the single-car crash.
Sheriff's deputies were photographing the scene and were set to take measurements and detail the wreckage before it was towed away.
The roll-over crash near Los Angeles did not involve any other vehicles. There was no evidence of impairment, but the crash is under investigation, officials said.
A resident near the accident site called 911.
