"Unfortunately, it now seems clear that there is no path forward to gain confirmation, and I do not want continued consideration of my nomination to be a distraction from your other priorities", Tanden said in the letter.
The Biden administration will stop pursuing the nomination of Indian American Neera Tanden for Director of the powerful Office of Management & Budget (OBM), after Ms. Tanden wrote to the President withdrawing her nomination on Tuesday.
The president, in a statement, said he has "utmost respect for her record of accomplishment, her experience and her counsel" and pledged to find her another role in his administration. "She will bring valuable perspective and insight to our work".
She reportedly deleted more than 1,000 tweets before her confirmation process started.
Tanden's nomination was in jeopardy because of hundreds of her tweets against several Republican and Democratic Senators, who in turn vowed to vote against her during the Senate confirmation.
Even Murkowski was not spared in Tanden's caustic Twitter feed. Lisa Murkowski of Alaska to join Democrats in getting her confirmed.
The announcement came amid growing recognition that Tanden, who now heads a progressive think tank, did not have enough support after one Democrat and multiple moderate Republicans in the evenly divided Senate said they would not vote for her. The West Virginia Democrat cited her "overtly partisan statements" as a potential hurdle to bipartisanship in Congress. "We must take meaningful steps to end the political division and dysfunction that pervades our politics". She said Congress "has to be able to trust the OMB director to make countless decisions in an impartial manner, carrying out the letter of the law and congressional intent".
The President indicated that she will have a role to play in his administration.

Collins also said Tanden's deletion of her past tweets "raises concerns about her commitment to transparency".
Tanden faced pointed questions over her past comments about members from both parties during her confirmation hearing.
White House chief of staff Ron Klain recently said that Tanden would receive another job in the White House if her nomination fell through - one that doesn't require Senate confirmation.
A senior administration official said the backing of independent Sen. He, Romney, Collins and Murkowski have supported every other Biden Cabinet post that has come up for a Senate vote.
