Australian authorities will end a lockdown of the country's third biggest city on Thursday (Apr 1) after reporting just one new coronavirus case in Queensland state, easing fears of a widespread outbreak.
"So this is yet another nurse who has unfortunately, through doing nothing wrong, has contracted the infection, from a gentleman who is clearly a superspreader", Queensland CHO Dr Jeannette Young, said.
One discreet clue on the Queensland Health website meanwhile has hinted Brisbane's lockdown be could extended until Tuesday.
Dr Young commended the Queenslanders linked to the state's two current clusters, crediting their efforts as key in containing the further spread of the outbreaks. He was the gentleman who came from Europe and was admitted and transmitted the infection to a doctor.
There were 35,357 people tested in the past 24 hours.
She also said Queensland is on track with its Covid vaccine rollout plan, despite figures released this morning that said otherwise.
She said the cluster would not be declared over a full 14 days had passed.
The two new cases were a nurse at the Princess Alexandra Hospital who had already received her first vaccination, and the other was a housemate.
"People are so prepared to share their very close contact details with us, and where they've been, and that must be so hard for individuals".
Western Australia has closed its border to all of Queensland until the eastern state goes 28 days without new cases of local transmission.
"We will also ask you to wear those masks in indoor spaces, such as shopping centres, supermarkets, indoor workplaces and public transport", Palaszczuk said.
The partner lives in north Brisbane and is part of a friendship group linked to the cluster.
NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian urged people to stay in their local area over the Easter period if they're in Ballina, Byron, Lismore and Tweed, but did not make it mandatory.
The nurse never showed symptoms but was tested through being a contact of a case.
Anyone who visited any shop or takeaway on Saturday March 27 between noon and 4pm in Lawson, Jonson, Browning and Fletcher streets has been ordered to get tested immediately and self-isolate until they return a negative result.
Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said she would raise the high numbers of overseas-acquired cases in national cabinet next week.
Until at least Tuesday, gatherings will be limited to 30, the "four square metre" rule reintroduced, and masks mandated in some settings.
