Worldwide, deaths are running at over 12,000 per day on average and new cases at more than 700,000 a day.
A plea has been moved in the Supreme Court seeking direction to provide Covid-19 vaccine to people in the age group of 18 and above, citing exponential rise in Covid cases in the country.
Mr. Dr Tedros added that globally, the number of new cases per week has almost doubled over the past two months.
"Vaccines must be available to everyone, everywhere, rich and poor to overcome this awful pandemic", Regmi added.
The surge of cases comes as India recorded 234,692 new cases on Saturday morning with the Chief Minister of the national capital, New Delhi, reporting 24,000 new cases in the city within the past 24 hours.
Alcohol sales will be banned in Bangkok restaurants from Sunday, while entertainment venues will be shuttered across the country for two weeks.
The virus continues to impact events elsewhere in the world. Brazil is next after it registered more than 368,000 deaths to date, followed by Mexico (over 211,000) and India (175,000).
One of these is Vila Formosa, the largest cemetery in Latin America and a showcase for the lethal cost of the pandemic in Brazil, where more than 360,000 people have died from Covid-19.
Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi announced Friday the country will begin easing some of its stricter COVID-19 restrictions April 26. The other places are Britain (4.4 million), Turkey (4.1 million), Italy (3.8 million), and the ten most important countries in the world are Spain (3.4 million) and Germany (about 1.2 million).
