A gunman opened fire at a birthday party in Colorado, killing six people in the early hours of Sunday before taking his own life, United States police said.
Authorities said the incident occurred shortly after midnight when the unidentified gunman, who is believed to be the boyfriend of a female victim, walked into a party attended by family, friends, and children in a mobile home park in Colorado Springs and started firing at guests.
"We are still investigating to determine a motive".

The shootings took place at a mobile home park where families had gathered in one trailer to celebrate. The Aurora shooter is serving a life sentence.
"From the officers who responded to the shooting to the investigators still on scene, we are all left incredibly shaken", said Colorado Springs police chief Vince Niski. "As the chief of police, as a husband, as a father, as a grandfather, as a member of this community, my heart breaks for the families who have lost someone they love and for the children who have lost their parents".

The recent shootings have revived the gun control debate, with Democratic President Joe Biden calling them a "national embarrassment" and calling for new legislation from Congress. A small group of adults stood nearby, some of them audibly sobbing, along with a small child.
"The tragic shooting in Colorado Springs is devastating, especially as many of us are spending the day celebrating the women in our lives who have made us the people we are today", he continued.
"Multiple lives were taken today by this bad act of violence".
