Nonetheless, the state seemed to be doing well after more than a month of lockdown as, according to the health department, only 20 deaths and 589 fresh cases were reported on the day.
Bihar's Covid death tally rose by 3,971 to 9,429 deaths, up 71 per cent compared to Wednesday, after the Patna High Court flagged the irregularities in registering the deaths due to Covid. Three cremation sites - Baans Ghat, Gulbi Ghat and Khajekalan Ghats - reported over 3,100 deaths, most of which were because of Covid. A single-day rise of 86,498 cases was registered, the lowest in 66 days, taking the total tally of COVID-19 cases to 2,89,96,473. The Bihar government said these previously unaccounted deaths were of patients in private hospitals and home isolation and those who died of post-Covid complications.
India recorded 6,148 deaths in last 24 hours, highest since the pandemic hit past year, according to data released by the Union Health and Family Welfare Ministry on Thursday. The number of recoveries in the country went up to 2,76,55,493, pushing the recovery rate to 94.77%. The additional figures increased the Covid-19 mortality in Bihar by around 72.8%.
Meanwhile, Indian Council of Medical Research and Drugs for Neglected Diseases Initiative will jointly jointly conduct a multi-centre randomised trials on safety and efficacy of several therapies, including antiviral therapies, for controlling mild cases of Covid-19, said a statement. Of these 19,85,967 samples were tested on Tuesday.
The health ministry said that 24.27 crore vaccine doses have been administered in the country since the beginning of the inoculation drive in January.
"While on one side testing has been enhanced across the country, a continued decline in weekly case positivity is noticed". The daily positivity rate has dropped to 4.62 per cent. These doses will be delivered between August and December 2021, the Union health ministry said.
The active number of Covid-19 cases in the country is over 1,177,152 while 27,645,225 people have recovered from the virus.
The number of COVID-19 deaths in Bihar was on Wednesday revised drastically upwards by the state health department which put the total number of fatalities caused by the pandemic at 9,429.
